Our first meeting for Knowledge Management and ICT for PA (PA 103) was an orientation led by our subject instructor, Sir John Lester Baroro. When we entered the classroom, he was already there and waiting for the class to settle. He first shared some of his experiences with his previous students, especially how they were able to observe and appreciate his way of interacting with people. He also gave us a useful tip for interviews, where he said that mirroring the interviewer’s actions can help create a more open and comfortable impression.
After that, he formally introduced himself and proceeded with the orientation proper. He first discussed the course, giving us a quick overview of the topics we may cover and how they are connected to Public Administration. He then highlighted the importance of being familiar with BISU’s Mission, Vision, and Goals. After that, he explained the grading system and the classroom rules. He mentioned that the use of mobile phones is allowed as long as they are used properly and responsibly. He also talked about academic honesty in a light and approachable manner. Lastly, he explained the attendance policy, stating that attendance would only be checked strictly when necessary or when there were only a few students present.
